Deposit or earnest money, rights transfer or image rights, master or deliverable: these distinctions aren't semantics. They decide who pays what, and what can be shown.

- Deposit (acompte)
- A sum paid at booking that definitively binds both parties: in the event of cancellation, the service remains due or the deposit remains earned. To be distinguished from earnest money, which allows either party to withdraw.
- Earnest money (arrhes)
- A sum paid that allows the client to withdraw by forfeiting it, and the provider to withdraw by refunding double. Without written clarification, a payment can be reclassified — hence the value of explicitly naming it a "deposit".
- Rights transfer
- Written authorization to use an image, scoped by uses, a duration, a territory and media. Anything not expressly transferred remains with the photographer.
- Image rights
- The right of any person over the dissemination of their image. It belongs to the person photographed, not the photographer: it is obtained through an authorization distinct from the copyright transfer.
- Simple electronic signature (SES)
- A signature level defined by the eIDAS regulation. Article 25§1 prohibits denying it legal effect on the sole ground that it is electronic; its evidentiary weight depends on the technical elements retained (document fingerprint, timestamp, acceptance trail).
- Processor (GDPR)
- A service provider that processes personal data on behalf of a data controller. A studio is a controller for its clients, and becomes a processor when it processes data on behalf of a commissioning business.
- DSAR
- Data subject access request (access, rectification, erasure, portability). It must receive a response within the timeframe set by the GDPR, which requires knowing where the data is stored.
- Open category (drone)
- European operating regime for low-risk flights, subject to sub-categories depending on proximity to people and aircraft mass. Beyond that, operation falls under the specific category, requiring authorization.
- Operational scenario
- Description of a flight's framework — distance, overflight, height, environment — which determines the conditions to be met and the documents to produce in the event of an inspection.
- Proxy (video workflow)
- A lightweight copy of a rush used for editing, with final conforming applied to the original files. Allows work without handling large master files.
- Master / deliverable
- The master is the reference file kept in archive; the deliverable is the version intended for distribution. Confusing the two means archiving a compressed file and losing the source.
- Selection gallery
- Space given to the client to choose the images to be retouched. Distinct from the delivery gallery, which contains the final files and associated terms of use.
